As the name would imply, soft trunks are trunks that aren't rigid in construction. Most are made out of a synthetic leather or a durable nylon. Some maintain their shape, others are collapsible.

As for mounting, some will allow you to mount them either on your luggage rack or on the back of your seat. Others can only be mounted to a luggage rack.
